How to create a stage?

Requirements

  • A list of your marketing funnel steps
  • Mautic account with permission to manage Stages

Note

While a marketing funnel is commonly used - the functionality could be used in different situations.

Steps

  1. Log into Mautic and on the left menu, click on "Stages".
  2. Click "New" to create a new stage.
    • On the screen that opened, give your stage a name and description to help your team identify it later.
    • Set the weight (this determines the order of stages in the funnel)
    • Save your stage.
  3. Repeat until you finish the heaviest stage in the funnel.

Info

Remember to repeat these steps for each stage, starting from the lightest (e.g., awareness) and progressing to the heaviest (e.g., conversion) in your marketing funnel.

Note

It can also be useful to have a gap between each stage, for example, of 5 points in weight, so you can create new stages between existing ones in the future, if necessary.

Results

  • You’ll see the newly created stage listed in Mautic.
  • Your team can now use this stage to manage leads and track their progress.

What’s the difference between Stages and Points?

Stages are useful in helping the marketing team understand the metrics of the entire marketing funnel, providing a general overview of each step, while also serving as a contact filter for campaigns with conditional workflows.

Points, on the other hand, can act independently of campaigns by sending emails or even changing the segment a contact is part of. They are useful for enhancements to the customer digital experience journey, based on how contacts interact with your company. The amount of points (engagement) could also be a trigger to move a contact to the next stage.
