Bulk importing contacts

Bulk importing contacts into Mautic is a time-efficient method to upload multiple contacts at once using a CSV file. This process is ideal when dealing with large datasets or migrating contacts from another system.

Requirements

  • A CSV file with contact data formatted according to Mautic's requirements (you can also match data columns later)
  • Access to Mautic with permissions to import contacts.
  • Necessary custom fields and segments already created.

Steps

  1. Prepare your CSV file, ensuring that the columns match Mautic's contact fields.
  2. Log in to your Mautic account and navigate to the Contacts page.
  3. Click on the 'Import' button, found in the dropdown menu at the top of the Contacts page.
  4. Choose the CSV file from your computer.
  5. Map the columns in your CSV file to the corresponding contact fields in Mautic.
    • For any unmatched fields, assign custom fields if necessary.
  6. Configure the import settings, such as handling duplicates and assigning to a segment.
  7. Start the import process clicking on ‘Import in background’ and monitor its progress.
    • If errors occur, download the error report, fix the issues, and re-upload the file.

Warning

It's crucial to clean and deduplicate your data before importing to avoid cluttering your database.

Results

  • Contacts from the CSV file are added to the Mautic database.
  • If successful, the contacts will be properly categorized and duplicates managed according to your settings.
  • You can verify the import by reviewing the number of contacts added and checking for any import errors.

Note

Consider adding tags during import to help organize and segment your contacts effectively.
