Creating a Social Monitor

Social Monitoring in Mautic allows you to automatically add new contacts by tracking Twitter mentions of your brand's handle or specific hashtags. When someone tweets matching your criteria, Mautic creates them as a contact associated with that Twitter account.

Warning

We’re assuming you already have the technical set up ready. If not, please contact our support.

Steps

  1. Go to the Channels > Social Monitoring page and click New
  2. Choose the monitoring method: Twitter mention to track mentions of a Twitter handle, or Twitter hashtag to track usage of a specific hashtag
  3. If using Twitter mention monitoring, enter the Twitter handle to track mentions of (without the @ symbol, e.g. mautic)
  4. If using Twitter hashtag monitoring, enter the hashtag to track (without the # symbol, e.g. mktg)
  5. Provide an internal description of what the monitor is tracking to help other marketers understand its purpose
  6. Optionally enable Match Contact Names if you want Mautic to try associating Twitter accounts with existing contacts to avoid duplicates
  7. Select the Contact Segment(s) in Mautic that you want contacts from this monitor to join for further action
  8. Click Save & Close to activate the new Social Monitor

The new Social Monitor will start tracking the defined Twitter criteria and automatically create new contacts that match.

Info

Be selective about the Twitter handles and hashtags you monitor. Focus on those most relevant to your brand, campaigns or events to avoid pulling in too many irrelevant contacts.
