Check if a website has Mautic tracking script¶
When some features that rely on the Mautic tracking script are not working as expected, checking if the script is there is your first step. This quick check tells you if visitors are being tracked at all, saving you time before diving into more complex troubleshooting.
Finding the tracking code in the right place means everything's set up to capture visitor data.
Requirements¶
- URL to the website you want to check
- A web browser with incognito/private browsing capability
Step-by-step guide¶
- Open a new incognito or private browsing window in your browser
- Navigate to the website you want to check
- Right-click anywhere on the webpage and select "View Page Source"
- Press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac) to open the search function
- Search for these specific identifiers:
mtc.jsMauticTrackingObject
Warning
mtc.js often appears twice. If appearing 3x or more, removing the duplicate is needed as it could cause point actions, for example, triggering several times and causing the system to freeze repeatedly.
How do I know if I executed this process correctly?¶
- You found one or both tracking identifiers in the page source
- The tracking script appears before the closing
</body>tag - You're checking in an incognito window
Info
The tracking script's presence alone doesn't guarantee it's working correctly. Check if anonymous visitors (in this case, you using the incognito window) appear in Contacts after visiting the website.
