Adding GIFs or animations to emails¶
In short:
- You can add animated GIFs when building a mail in Mautic.
- When you crop / resize the image in Mautic, you lose the animation.
- When reading the email in Outlook 2007-2019, contacts will not see the animation.

Losing animation when cropping
When you open the email builder, there's a feature that allows you to crop or resize images directly while building your email. However, when you try to crop or resize an animation, like a GIF, it often turns your animated image into a static one. The best you can do here is to use an external tool that is able to handle this process.
Some emails clients won’t play
Some email clients were built using very old technology, mainly when we talk about Microsoft Outlook. Therefore, these clients are commonly unable to play animations, and contacts will appear as static images.
