Bounce management

Mautic provides a feature that allows monitoring of IMAP accounts to detect bounced emails and unsubscribe requests. This is essential for maintaining a clean email list and ensuring that your marketing efforts are not wasted on invalid addresses.

Success

Several email service providers, including Elastic Email, SparkPost, Mandrill, Mailjet, SendGrid, and Amazon SES, support Webhook callbacks for bounce management in Mautic. This integration allows for real-time processing of bounce notifications. Ask our support for the technical configuration.

How does it work?

Mautic uses "append" email addresses for bounce management. It happens modifying the return-path or list-unsubscribe header to include a unique identifier, similar to youraddress+bounce_abc123@example.com. This helps in tracking and managing bounced emails effectively.

Info

You only need to set an email account, Mautic handles everything automatically.

Best practices

Authenticate your domain

Authenticating your domain with DMARC, SPF, and DKIM is crucial for improving email deliverability. These authentication protocols help in verifying that your emails are coming from a legitimate source, reducing the chances of your emails being marked as spam or bouncing.

Implement a Preference Center

A preference center allows subscribers to choose the types and frequency of emails they receive from you. In other words, allow people to unsubscribe from specific emails instead of completely forgetting about your company.

Check blacklisting status

Being on a blacklist can significantly impact your email deliverability and increase bounce rates. Taking steps to get delisted can help in maintaining a healthy email campaign.

Re-engage inactive subscribers

Sending re-engagement campaigns or offering options to update preferences can bring inactive subscribers back into the fold.

Use a branded corporate sender domain

Using a branded corporate sender domain (@yourcompany.com) instead of a free one can improve your email deliverability and reduce bounce rates. Emails from free domains are more likely to be marked as spam or bounce.

Segment your audience

Segmenting your audience allows you to send more targeted and relevant content. Segmentation also helps in demonstrating to spam filters that your content is useful and relevant to the recipients.
