Actions, Triggers and Groups¶
The following three concepts work together to enable a robust points system for tracking and automating based on Contact engagement in Mautic.
- Point Actions are the behaviors that earn points
- Triggers are the automated events that occur based on points
- Groups are the organizational categories for Point Actions
Info
Mautic tracks every interaction like clicks, opens, form fills, etc and awards points.
Each one in details¶
Actions¶
Actions are the specific behaviors or interactions that are assigned point values. Examples include:
- Form submissions
- Email opens
- Page visits
- Custom actions via plugins
When a Contact completes one of these actions, they are awarded the corresponding number of points configured for that action.
Info
Points for a Contact are displayed on a chart in their Contact record, alongside their engagement history.
Triggers¶
Triggers are events that cause an action or process to occur automatically. Example:
- When a Contact reaches a certain points threshold, they can be automatically moved to the next stage, like into a CRM system.
Success
Reports and dashboard widgets can be created to see what percentage of Contacts moved from one point-based stage to another, for example.
Triggers can be used to send an email or notification when specific criteria are met. They also enable automation of marketing processes based on Contact behaviors and points.
The key difference is that Point Actions are the behaviors that earn points, while Triggers are the automated events that occur based on point thresholds being reached.
Groups¶
Groups provide a way to organize Point Actions into categories. This allows for easier management and reporting. For example, Point Actions like form submissions, email opens, page visits could be grouped into an "Engagement" group.
Having groups enables reporting to see how many points Contacts are earning from different types of actions.
