Test a custom preference center as a real contact¶
This process helps you test a custom preference center, which is built using a landing page. Unlike the standard version, a custom center can be designed and translated.
Info
This method is more reliable than just previewing the page because it processes all variables, like which segments are visible, based on the specific test contact.
Requirements¶
- You must have an existing landing page built to serve as a preference center.
- You should have contact segments configured to appear in the preference center.
Step-by-step guide¶
- Go to the
Contactspage and create a new contact with your own work email. - Navigate to
Segmentsand create a new segment for your test, giving it a name and saving. - Return to the
Contactslist and find your test contact. - Check the box next to the contact. This will make the bulk actions toolbar appear.
- Click the
Change Segmentsbutton on the toolbar. - In the pop-up window, use the
Add to segment(s)field to search for your new test segment. Select it, then clickSave. - Go to
Channels>Emailsand clickNew, then chooseNew Segment Email. - Select a template that contains the
{unsubscribe_url}token. - Open the
Builderto visually check that the unsubscribe token is in the email body. - Close the builder and fill out all mandatory fields, like the
Subject. - In the
Contact segmentfield, choose the segment that contains your test contact. - In the
Preference center pagefield, select the landing page you created for your custom preference center. This is the key step.
Success
Defining the preference center page is required for every email. To speed up the process, leave 1 template email for each language with corresponding page selected, then clone them over time to create new emails.
- Click
Save & Close. - From the email's detail view, click the
Sendbutton and follow the steps to send it. - Open the email in your inbox and click the unsubscribe link.
How do I know if I executed this process correctly?¶
- Clicking the unsubscribe link takes you to your custom landing page, not the standard Mautic page.
- You can see the public segments and options you configured for that page.
